Julie & Tehl's Wedding

We first met Julie & Tehl back in June of 2017 when Tehl had booked us for a portrait session as a Mother’s Day gift for Julie. Tehl used Facebook to search for a photographer and someone was kind enough to recommend us for the job (always very much appreciated!!).

When it came time for these two to get married, they let us know of their engagement by email and added: “Of course we would like you guys to be our photographers!” And we were thrilled to hear it!!

This wedding was so unique. It all took place in and around their acreage just south of Leduc. Julie got ready at their house and Tehl got ready at a hotel in Leduc. Dave spent time with Julie while she got ready and I was with Tehl. We all met up at a place called The Old Red Barn for their first look. We also took some amazing photos of the couple inside the barn after the first look. What a great space! We all headed to Tehl’s gym for a few more photos as well.

After the gym, we went our separate ways once again. Tehl got his two boys dressed back at the hotel and Julie got her son ready at the house. Then it was time for the ceremony. The outdoor setting on their acreage was just perfect.

Once they were officially wed we headed back to The Old Red Barn to get photos of the whole gang. Luckily the barn was only a 2-minute drive from their house.

With the formal photo portion of the day complete we all zipped back to their acreage for the reception. Tehl did a great job converting the Quonset on their property into a wedding reception space. It looked like it was intended for receptions all along! The camper-turned-bar known as The Old Fashioned (supplied by the same people that run The Old Red Barn) was such a unique touch! So was the fact that dinner featured an actual pig roast!

We cannot say enough about how great it was to work with these two. A true joy indeed!! We couldn’t be happier for them and wish them all the happiness in the world.

Take a look at just some of the images we captured on their big day:

Natalie & Ryan

Our last wedding of the year was a fun one.

We spent a beautiful fall day with Natalie and Ryan starting at the Matrix Hotel for the getting ready and the ceremony, then heading to Local on Jasper for a much needed pub stop, where we got some great casual photos of the bridal team, before heading back to the Matrix to dance the night away.

Finding all the spots at Local was fun. Because of the cloudy day, we sat at a long table on the patio and used that as a staging area and after getting a few drinks and nachos (our favourite), we ran around the place finding all the cool spots to feature this good looking group of people.

The night was full of great speeches, real emotion, and great food.

Congratulations Natalie & Ryan! Thanks for letting us hang out with you for the day!

Liz & Greg's Wedding

My sister got married! At the Calgary Zoo! It was incredible.

A couple of months ago, we shared the fun engagement shoot we did with these two and during that session, we knew that their wedding would be awesome. It did not disappoint. The thing that may not come across in these photos, is the heat, my gawd the heat! Like flames on the side of ours faces. It was +31c in the direct Alberta sun, but they were all troopers. We did try to find refuge in any shade we could both to cool down and also get those non-squinty shots.

I do have to say a huge thank you to Brad. Not that I don't normally appreciate everything he does when it comes to this photo partnership, but in this instance, he absolutely went above and beyond. Occasionally, being a family member, I had to be in front of the camera. Brad easily picked up the slack and got the job done. Thank you sir.

Another cool element of the big day was that we got to work with marriage commissioner, Jacquie Hoare. My wife and I were married by Jacquie in her third ever wedding. Ten years later as she joined sister and now brother-in-law, she crossed her 800th ceremony. Amazing.

Liz, you looked amazing! Greg, welcome (officially) to the family. I'm so happy with how these shots turned out. It was a magnificent day. Here's top many more magnificent ones.

Anne & Joe's Wedding

For whatever reason, we seem to book a lot of nurses for weddings. That works out great for us because they have all been amazing to work with. While Anne is not a nurse, she does work at a hospital and that’s how she heard about our work. She got to see it first hand when the bride or groom brought their wedding album in to show everyone at work. Nothing like some free advertising! HA!

You may remember that we held their engagement session at the same time an Edmonton Oiler playoff game was starting. Well, good news/bad news was that the Oilers were out of the playoffs by their wedding day.

Anne & Joe’s day was filled with many events. Apart from the regular Ceremony and Reception there was a tea ceremony, a first look, and several fun games that the Groom and his Groomsmen had to participate in before the Bride would make her appearance.

The Ceremony and Reception were both held at the Edmonton Marriott at River Cree Resort. Because we did not have to travel from venue to venue it allowed us to get a lot of photos in a shorter amount of time.

The weather cooperated as well. We didn’t get rained on in spite of threatening clouds. It actually got quite nice out!

All-in-all everyone had a great time! We are very happy for Anne & Joe!

Wedding Tip Videos

We realize that many couples get engaged over the Christmas and New Year's season. Over the years that we've been shooting weddings we've come up with some things that we would consider best practices so we thought we share some of these tips with those newly engaged couples now.

These are things that help couples get the best photos on their wedding day. There are things we recommend that help the couple enjoy the day more. We seem to constantly get positive feedback about how smooth their day went and how much they actually enjoyed the photos part of the day.

When we meet with our clients, we pass this information along to them of course. But we thought it might be nice to share these tips with everyone! So if you know someone who is getting married in the near future, share these videos with them. We're pretty sure they will find at least a few helpful things that they might not have considered.

Each video is around 3 minutes long so it won't eat up your whole day. We hope you enjoy them.

Cassie & Drew

What a great day this was!

After the great time we had with Cassie and Drew at their engagement session, we were pumped to get shooting their big day. The day started off at with a First Look at their house, then we headed to Iconoclast Coffee (a favourite hangout of these two), took some photos on the edge of the new Brewery District, before finally heading off to the Old Timers Cabin for the ceremony and reception.

Thank you Cassie and Drew for letting us capture your wedding. Here's to many awesome years ahead!

Fiona & James

Fiona is a long time friend and I couldn't be happier that she asked us to be a part of her big day. When Brad and I arrived at the Hotel MacDonald to get photos of them getting ready, the sky opened up and threw down the hardest rain we have seen all summer. As they dressed, the rain pummeled the outside of the hotel and didn't seem like it was going to let up.

But it did, and we got some shots around the hotel before heading to their beautiful ceremony at the amphitheatre at Hawrelak Park.  From there, we hit a few awesome spots around town before landing at the Muttart Conservatory for a fantastic reception.

It was such a beautiful day. We just wanted to share it with you.

Jill & Brendan

We loved working with these two.

After an awesome engagement session in Hawrelak Park we knew their big day was going to be a great one. The bright, sunny day started out at the Nova Hotel, then we headed to a beautiful ceremony at the Grace Lutheran Church.

When we met them before the wedding, Brendan mentioned he had a friend at Parlour, a fantastic Italian restaurant in Edmonton. After the ceremony, we brought the wedding party to the restaurant where they opened early for us and served some delicious pizza. Places like this always lend themselves as fantastic backdrops for wedding photos.

After the photos were done, we headed to the Italian Cultural Centre for a wonderful reception and great music.

We are so happy with how these shots turned out. Congrats Jill and Brendan!

Teresa & Bruce - New Year's Eve Wedding!

Teresa & Bruce are as in love with each other as I've ever seen with any other couple! They are just so cute together. When they asked me to photograph their New Year's Eve wedding I was honoured to do it.

Dave had prior obligations (with it being New Year's Eve and all) so I enlisted my girlfriend Nicole (who has a fantastic fashion design business called Vertigogo Designs) to help out with lighting for the evening.

Teresa & Bruce were married at their home here in Edmonton. The house was converted into an amazing wedding venue! Teresa's daughter Andrea made some amazing artwork from literally thrift store finds! Lots of candles lighting the home made it so cozy. With only approximately 40 guests present, it was a very intimate affair.

We found some time to venture outside for a few photos after the ceremony. Teresa was quite a trooper and spent our time outside without a coat on. Luckily it was one of the nicer evenings we've had in a while so that helped, but she was still shivering but tried not to let it show.

Nicole and I were thrilled to experience this evening with the lovebirds and will remember this New Year's Eve for decades to come!

Check out a few of the moments from the night below.

Amanda & Jason

Downtown weddings. Our favourite.

While Brad was off shooting a wedding in Ireland, I had the pleasure of shooting Amanda and Jason's big day. We started by running around 104th St, finding all the awesome nooks and crannies that our city has to offer. Then from there, we headed to a beautiful ceremony at the Yellowhead Brewery followed by awesome music spun by Chris Bullough, dancing , and even a makeshift photo booth.

Thanks you two for having me as part of your day. I really had a great time and can't wait to see where your adventures take you.

Laura & Glen - A Wedding in Ireland

I have always wanted to travel to Ireland. My family heritage is Irish and I have longed to visit the place where my ancestors came from. Well, I was able to make that happen thanks to Laura & Glen this year!

Laura & Glen met in New Orleans while Glen was on a trip from Calgary with his buddies and Laura was visiting from Ireland with her girlfriends. The stars truly aligned for these two to find each other and fall in love.

I used to work with Glen at TELUS many years ago and when he messaged me to discuss his wedding in Ireland and the opportunity to be their photographer arose, I was over the moon! Not only would I get to capture the moments from Glen's big day, but I would also be able to tour Ireland. Dave was not able to make the trip with me, but my friend Brian came along to hold lights and camera bags etc. He did a fantastic job and I know he had a great time... and they enjoyed having him there as well. I'll be writing about my Ireland adventures in an upcoming post, so for now, please take a look at the gallery below to see some of the photos from the wedding held in Killarney, County Kerry. The reception was held at the Dunloe Hotel which had a castle on their grounds - and yes, I know there are several photos below with this castle but come on, it's a castle! How could I not take a million photos of it??.

I'm so very happy for Laura & Glen. And I am honoured that I was able to be there to photograph their day. Thanks for having me!

Alicia & Rob's Wedding

We love working with all of our clients, but there's no question that working with Alicia & Rob is always a fun time. They were in the wedding party for the wedding we shot for Robert & Melissa back in 2012 and it's safe to say that Rob was more than a handful that day. When they booked us for their wedding, we knew that this day was going to be a little zany, and they did not disappoint!!

A nice part of the day was stopping at Central Social Hall for a while. We were able to get several great shots while we were there!

Alicia & Rob have been together since High School  and it is obvious that they are meant to be together for the rest of their lives. The most obvious clue that this is true is the fact that Alicia is able to put up with Rob and his craziness!! HA!

We wish you all the best Alicia & Rob!!

Take a look at some of the images from the wedding of our good friends.

Sue & Chris

What a great wedding!

Brad and I got connected with these two when we shot the wedding of my good friend (Chris' daughter) Sabrina. It was a short and beautiful ceremony at the Hotel MacDonald, followed by a quick round of photos before dinner.

We were honoured to be a part of the big day and despite the autumn showers, were pretty happy with how the photos turned out.

Enjoy and congrats Sue & Chris!

Paula & Andrew Got Married!

This wedding had heart.

It was clear from the first time we met these two that they loved each other deeply. Even more so when we went back to the Red Ox Inn, the place of their first date, for their engagement session that this was a pretty special thing. That sentiment rang true throughout their entire wedding day.

From the beautiful church wedding, to the gorgeous farm property to the quick tours of Stony Plain and Spruce Grove, we spent the entire day just one step ahead of the rain which left us with nothing but dramatic skies and cool temperatures.

Here is a sample of what we captured on that day. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Melissa & Ben's Wedding

Melissa and Ben's wedding was such a simple and classy event. It was such a relaxed day that started with a first look at Tavern 1903, then a walk to the beautiful entryway of the Hardware Grill, followed by a stroll around the block.

There is something to be said for the bridal party that doesn't necessarily match with identical outfits, but each member gets to showcase their personal style. I love how it all came together. We then headed off to Latitude 53 for the ceremony, followed by a delicious dinner catered by my all time favourite restaurant Culina, then speeches, and a great party.

Thanks so much for including us in your day. It was such a treat. Enjoy a snippet of what we got on the day.

Amy & Ian are Married

What an awesome day! We had so much fun with these two. When Amy & Ian laid out the design of the space where the ceremony and reception were taking place, neither Brad or I could help but get excited.

It was a beautiful room, gorgeously lit. The Westbury Theatre at Fringe Theatre Adventures can be an intimidating space. These two pulled it off magnificently. The day was so smooth. It included a much appreciate drink and appetizer stop at MKT which allowed us to get some pretty great photos.

Thanks so much for letting us be a part of the big day guys. I hope you dig the shots as much as we do.

Gaea & Kurt are Married

You may remember these two from their awesome engagement session in the mystery location. Well now it is time for the big day!

Man, this was a great wedding! During the entire day it looked like it was going to rain, but not one drop fell. It was just the perfect lighting conditions outside. The bridal party was hilarious. But the best part was the pace of the whole day. It was so well timed and so relaxed.

We had a great time and I think the fun comes through in the shots.

Congrats Gaea and Kurt!

Kristen & Mark

The wedding of Kristen & Mark on August 24th was our second wedding in Edson. The first was Juniper & Adam last year. Kristen is Juniper’s cousin. I think it is safe to say that Dave and I are now part of the Edson family!!

One of the nicest things to come out of Juniper & Adam’s wedding was the fact that we found Emily. Some of you have met her. She is Juniper’s sister and we became good friends with her following that wedding and she has joined us on several weddings as our third photographer. She is a fine young lady and we are always thrilled to work with her.

Dave, Emily and I hopped in the car early in the morning and headed off to meet Kristen & Mark in Edson. Dave and Emily took the photos of Kristen getting ready and I was with Mark for his prep time. Once they were ready, we met to set up the First Look at a park close to their house. Have we mentioned enough times yet how much we love the First Look? It’s always a special part of the day for us and this was no exception.

From the first look we headed off to the ceremony that was held outdoors at Mark’s parents’ house. It was short but very sweet!

We then headed down to the river behind the house to take some photos of the Bride and Groom with the wedding party - couldn’t ask for a nicer setting, that’s for sure.

Once we finished those photos, we headed out on the road with just Mark & Kristen to take more photos of the two of them. And by “on the road”, we mean it literally!! We pulled off in the middle of the highway to get some nice images of the two of them in the middle of the road (and one of them in the fancy Thunderbird car that they were lucky enough to be driving around in). It was quite fun.

Back to town to take some photos of the wedding party at their favourite local pub (attached to the hotel where the reception was held) and then it was time for the reception.

We ended the night by taking a few photos of their rings. Dave and I always like to come up with something unique or special to the couple for these shots. This time we were able to place the rings on the word “Thunderbird” on the side of their wedding car (as seen below).

All in all, it was another great time in Edson.

Kristen & Mark, we thank you for treating us so nice during our time in your town and we wish you all the best in your newly married lives.

Here are some of our favourite moments from the wedding.

Jen & Pierre

It seems like our last few weddings have featured rain during the day.  It was no different for the wedding of Jen & Pierre on September 7th but that didn't stop us from doing everything we could to get great images for them (we love a challenge!).

We started the day photographing each of them getting ready then headed to the park behind their house for the First Look. This is where the couple get to see each other for the first time. It’s always a very special part of the day that Dave and I love setting up with a couple.

From there we set off to the formal photo part of the day – this is when the rain started. We managed to very quickly get a lot of photos of the couple and the wedding party before making our way to the ceremony in Cardiff Park.

The rain continued throughout the ceremony but it didn't matter… it was a very beautiful ceremony! (And it was funny to see the Justice of the Peace trying to read his words on his rain-covered iPad!)

Once the couple were officially married they got back into the amazing vintage cars that were loaned to them by a family friend and we took a few more photos of the newlyweds at their house before moving on the reception.

Jen did a ton of work on the rustic decorative elements for her wedding and they looked fantastic. She enlisted the work of Sofia from Awespiring Weddings to make sure everything was taken care of for her big day and it was very much worth it. The Morinville Community Cultural Centre looked so great. The flowers that Fabloomosity provided were beautiful – Jen could not have loved her bouquet more.

One of the highlights of the reception was the slideshow that was prepared by Jen’s cousin Lauren. It featured still images, videos and some hilarious interviews with family and friends. Definitely the most creative slideshow we’ve seen so far!

After a great meal, a cake cutting, bouquet and garter toss and first dance by the couple, it was time to party. And we have to say that it was awesome to see such a happy group of people dancing up a storm on the dance floor.

We wish Jen & Pierre a very happy life together and thank them for allowing us to be a part of their excellent day.
