Janice & Darcy - Art Gallery Wedding

The Art Gallery of Alberta is an amazing structure. It makes for a fantastic wedding setting, that’s for sure. And Janice & Darcy were very smart to choose it as their wedding location. The ceremony and reception were both held there on the evening of February 16, 2013. It was beautiful!

I have known Janice and her family for many years now. It is always special to be asked to photograph such an important day for people who have been in your life for so long. There is, however, the added pressure to get really great photos. The good news? I am sure we got some great photos for Janice & Darcy!!

Have a look at some of the fun/sweet/loving photos we captured on their special day.

Congrats to you Janice & Darcy!!!

Sabrina & Gordon - A Four Day Engagement

Four day engagement? Really? Yes, really!

Sabrina & Gordon planned on getting married in the near future but never thought near meant immediately. Without going into great detail, I can say that getting married sooner rather than later meant Gordon not having to return to his native Scotland.

They got officially engaged on Saturday February 23rd, and married on Tuesday February 26th. In that time they were able to find a Justice of the Peace, a wedding dress and veil, flowers, and a location for their big day. All of the arrangements were made via their smartphones (their thumbs were quite sore after those few days!) and it all came together very nicely. It is amazing to realize that sometimes the most important thing of the day is that two people who really love each other are joining their lives together.

The location was perfect. It was the home of Gordon’s relatives here in Edmonton. The house overlooks the Mill Creek Ravine and the light coming in through the windows was so beautiful.

Since the wedding was thrown together so quickly and they realized that most people would not be able to make it to the wedding (Sabrina’s brother just about didn’t make it back from a ski trip he was on and remember that Gordon’s family is back home in Scotland) they utilized modern technology and streamed the wedding live on the Internet for anyone to watch. People from around the world were able to witness the beautiful event!

Dave and I have known Sabrina for many years (check out Sabrina’s artwork post) so this was quite personal for us. We were thrilled to be part of this wedding and could not be happier that Gordon and Sabrina are now married. They are a fantastic couple and it is clear that they are very much in love. No more than 2 seconds ever went by when they were not grinning from ear to ear and gazing into each other’s eyes.

Have a look at some of our favourite moments from the day:

Jamie & Nicole - The Wedding Day!

What a day we had with Jamie & Nicole back in September! I've known these two for several years and was so thrilled to be photographing their wedding.

Dave and I were lucky enough to have the help of Emily - she was a bridesmaid from the Juniper & Adam wedding that we also shot in September. She is an aspiring phtographer with a keen eye and is great to be around. She was such a great help for this shoot.

The day started with the fellas heading to get shaves and haircuts at The Men's Room in Mayfield Common - that was awesome! What a great way to start the day (Dave even got a haircut while he was there!).

We all then made our way to Sherwood Park for the ceremony then it was off to the Muttart grounds for formal photos.

From there we headed back to Sherwood Park for the reception.

I have to say that I loved being so involved in Jamie & Nicole's big day - it was very special and I am so glad I was able to share it like I did.

Congrats Jamie & Nicole!

Here are some of the images we took on this great day. Enjoy!

Ruth & Justin - Wedding Day

What a way to cap off our 2012 wedding season!!

Ruth & Justin found us through a photographer on Facebook. Right from the moment we met them, we knew this was going to be a great wedding and a fun shoot. You may remember these two from our iron bridge engagement shoot we did with them earlier in the year. Their wedding day started at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald and the day just got more and more elegant from there.

We had such a great time in the Whyte Ave alleys, then moved on to the autumn leaves in the River Valley. These two were just naturals. The love they share just jumped into the lens.

The night capped off right back where we started with a slightly drizzling first dance amongst friends and family holding sparklers. It was a beautiful site indeed!

Thanks for having us along you guys. You are a very special couple!

Congrats!

Juniper & Adam - Wedding Day

Back on September 1st, Dave and I zipped off to Edson bright and early to photograph the wedding of Juniper & Adam. Up until that point we had only met Juniper – Adam could not make the trek to Edmonton to meet us to go over the details of their big day. Juniper’s cousin Jennine filled in for him nicely so it was all covered.

After a quick stop for breakfast as we got into Edson, we arrived at the salon where Juniper and her bridesmaids were getting ready. Dave was quickly whisked off to meet the guys so he could get shots of them getting ready.

The rest of the day was so much fun. I think our favourite part of the day was when we were getting the formal photos done after the ceremony and then it started to rain. We ducked into the chicken coop. Yup, a chicken coop! Instead of wasting time, Dave suggested we make use our location and we went into MacGyver mode and used the surroundings to the best of our ability. We ended up getting some of our favourite photos there (for sure some of our most fun photos!!).

Another stop on our day was at the Red Brick School. They are celebrating their 99th anniversary. It was a very interesting old building. We only had a very short time but we were very happy with the shots we got. That’s where the piano photos are from.

We ended up becoming friends with Juniper’s sister Emily (the Maid of Honour). She is an aspiring photographer and she later helped us on another wedding shoot. Dave and I love that we get to meet such great people doing what we do.

Please enjoy a sample of the images we captured from Juniper & Adam’s wedding day.

Robert & Melissa - A Baseball Wedding

These two are one of my all time favourite couples. Robert and Melissa are my cousins-in-law and are some of the kindest, sincerest, and helpful people I know. When it came time for their big day, I was honoured to be asked to shoot their wedding.

That was BEFORE Robert and Brad started talking baseball at the consultation meeting (both being avid ball fans) and the idea to do their shoot at TELUS Field was born. Brad and my eyes lit up at the idea of shooting a wedding at a ball park.

A few phone calls by Melissa later and we were in! As the Edmonton Capitals were on a hiatus, there was instead the Women's World Cup of Baseball. What a day! We got on the field, were up in the stands, ate hot dogs, got interviewed by the Edmonton Journal AND we shot a wedding.

Thanks so much to the staff at the ballpark, the various teams that we put out, the Edmonton Journal and Robert & Melissa for letting us be a part of this awesome day.

Check out the shots we got from that day and others like it in the Wedding section of our page.

Lena & Scott - Wedding Teasers

On Saturday August 20th, Dave and I spent the day with Lena & Scott. They got married at the Ellerslie Rugby Club on a beautiful day.

We headed to Century Grill to get the indoor shots - they turned out very nice! We have to send a big thank you to everyone at Century Grill for allowing us to take over their bar on a Saturday afternoon.

Here are a few of the shots we were able to get from the day. Another great looking couple, wouldn't you agree?

I had such a great time spending the morning with the lovely bride and amazing bridesmaids and Dave certainly had his hands full with the groom and his mates (right Scott? Ha ha!!).

Congrats Lena & Scott - we are very happy for you!!

Amber & Bing - A teaser for now...

Dave and I had the good fortune to shoot the wedding of our good friend Amber last Saturday. It was a fantastic day - the rain stayed away and we were able to get some really great shots.

Amber looks STUNNING in a wedding dress with her make-up and hair all done. We're not used to seeing her that way. But I think you will agree, she made an amazing bride.

Here are just a few shots from the great event.
