Fall Portrait Blitz

The Fall Portrait Blitz that we held on September 29th was a lot of fun for us. 8 different groups showed up to have Dave and I capture their images and we enjoyed working with each one of them!

The weather almost worked against us - it was raining early in the morning but stopped just a few minutes before the first session began.

Here is a sampling of the images we were able to get from the Blitz:

Biddy, Scott & Thomas

This is my old friend Biddy.

She and I went to school long ago. Since those days, we only occasionally run into each other, but have kept up with each other's lives via the marvels of social media.

I was thrilled to receive a message from her asking for us to take pictures of her little guy Thomas as he was turning one. I had looked at some of her other sessions which were mostly in wooded areas and parks and recommended trying different. So downtown we went.

Here are the photos from that day.

Enjoy!

Nicole & Carl - teasers

In spite of it raining for 98% of the time we had allotted for the formal photos, Dave and I would have to say it was a beautiful day! We had an amazing time with Nicole & Carl yesterday on their wedding day. We spent a few hours hanging out at Public House while waiting for the rain to stop – and got some really fun photos while we bided our time. Big thanks to the Public House for letting us have the run of their pub on a rainy wedding day.

Here are a few teasers from the day. Congrats to Nicole & Carl – thanks for letting us be a part of your day!

Shelby & Brandon - Engaged

Man... winter can be cold. Even when it is only -3, the cold can hit you quickly. We had initially set up Shelby and Brandon to do their session in the fall, but schedules just didn't work out. So mid-February it was!

We had a blast hanging out in some alleys and traipsing through the snow, however, when the cold finally got to us, the folks at the Mercer Tavern were gracious enough to let us in and take some shots there.

Check out what we got and other shoots like this in the Portraits section of the page.

We'll see these two again soon for their Canmore wedding.

Ruth & Justin - Wedding Day

What a way to cap off our 2012 wedding season!!

Ruth & Justin found us through a photographer on Facebook. Right from the moment we met them, we knew this was going to be a great wedding and a fun shoot. You may remember these two from our iron bridge engagement shoot we did with them earlier in the year. Their wedding day started at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald and the day just got more and more elegant from there.

We had such a great time in the Whyte Ave alleys, then moved on to the autumn leaves in the River Valley. These two were just naturals. The love they share just jumped into the lens.

The night capped off right back where we started with a slightly drizzling first dance amongst friends and family holding sparklers. It was a beautiful site indeed!

Thanks for having us along you guys. You are a very special couple!

Congrats!

..and then there were four

It's one of those things. Being a photographer, I am constantly taking pictures of my family. However, looking back at the shots from the past year, it looks like at any given time there are groups of one, two or if we're lucky, three of us.

Since the birth of our son Elliott last year, we have yet to take a picture of all four of us together. As I mentioned in a previous post, this is where some of the advantages of a photography partnership kick in.

Brad graciously gave up an hour of his time on, up to that point, the coldest day of the fall and we headed for some downtown alleys, toddlers in tow.

Thank you, Uncle Brad for getting such fun shots of our group. We truly appreciate your time, effort and skill.

Check out what we got!

The Dungarees

Taking a break from all the weddings we've been working on lately, we were thrilled when Robb Angus, formerly of The Wheat Pool, contacted us to do press shots for his new band, The Dungarees.

I love doing promotional shots. It is all about capturing the group in their element, doing their thing. We met the guys at their garage recording studio and didn't have to go farther than their back alley to find some cool locations.

Check out some of the cool stuff we got below and head over to the Promotions section of the site to see similar shots we've done.

Robert & Melissa - A Baseball Wedding

These two are one of my all time favourite couples. Robert and Melissa are my cousins-in-law and are some of the kindest, sincerest, and helpful people I know. When it came time for their big day, I was honoured to be asked to shoot their wedding.

That was BEFORE Robert and Brad started talking baseball at the consultation meeting (both being avid ball fans) and the idea to do their shoot at TELUS Field was born. Brad and my eyes lit up at the idea of shooting a wedding at a ball park.

A few phone calls by Melissa later and we were in! As the Edmonton Capitals were on a hiatus, there was instead the Women's World Cup of Baseball. What a day! We got on the field, were up in the stands, ate hot dogs, got interviewed by the Edmonton Journal AND we shot a wedding.

Thanks so much to the staff at the ballpark, the various teams that we put out, the Edmonton Journal and Robert & Melissa for letting us be a part of this awesome day.

Check out the shots we got from that day and others like it in the Wedding section of our page.

Urban Maternity

We were contacted by Meagan and Sean as they were the lucky recipients of a photo session purchased by her sister. Several months back, Brad and I donated a session to Watch Me Productions for their fundraiser for 'An Evening with Shel Silverstein". Brad and I being big supporters of the arts couldn't have been happier to help out.

When it was time for her session, Meagan (who is having twins) made it very clear that she didn't want the normal type of maternity shots, but really wanted something that matched her and her husband's personalities. She came to the right place. This is out favourite type of shoot.

Check out some of the stuff we got from that day and check the Portraits section of our page for other similar shoots we've done.

Jamie & Nicole

I have known Jamie and Nicole for several years now so I was thrilled that they selected Dave and I to photograph their upcoming wedding in September.

A few weeks ago we set out to take their engagement photos. After one postponement due to horrible storms we were able to get together to do the shoot (even though only an hour prior it looked like we might have to postpone due to weather again -  luckily it cleared up nicely!).

It was funny to hear them both express that they really didn't know what to do as the "models". Looking at the images we were able to capture, you would think they were pros!

We are looking forward to spending their wedding day with them... can't wait to see these pros in action again!!

A Fun Shoot on a Hot Day

It was +30°C.

I met Cynthia while doing photos for the Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre. As a Christmas present, she wanted to get a multi-generational family photo done. They were all going to be together in July and it would be the perfect opportunity.

Seven months later, we met up at Mill Creek ravine on the, to that point, hottest day of the year. Two grandparents, several kids and partners and 5 dogs later, we got some pretty fun stuff. They were such a great group to work with and I think it shows in the shots I got.

Take a look here and then head over to the Portraits section of the page to see other family photos we've done.

cat & chris & slurpees

Cat & Chris know us through our other place of business. In case people don't know, Brad and I have a common day job as well as our photography.

These two awesome people are getting married out east this summer, but wanted us to do their session so they could show their Edmonton side off to their family and friends back home.

We started early at the Bunches in Parkallen where Cat workls part time. I'm glad I took my allergy pills!

We then moved into where Brad and I thrive. ALLEYS!

Behind Whyte Avenue on a Sunday morning, we found some new spots and Cat & Chris were more than game to let us try some stuff out.

Here is what we got. Check out similar shoots in the Portraits section of our page.

Enjoy!
