The Aliens

We got the chance to work with What It Is Productions again on their latest theatrical outing. In the past we've done work for such projects as Ligature Marks and Nighthawk Rules which both premiered at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. The Aliens, is their first foray into a main season production as part of Theatre Network's Roxy Performance Series, and we couldn't be happier to be a part of it. 

The main poster design was a fun one to shoot. As the show takes place behind a cafe, we wanted to capture several of the moments of the show in an overlapping composite image.

Pompeii, L.A.

In addition to design work during the Edmonton Fringe Festival, we also found time to shoot some production photos. We wanted to show you some images from Pompeii, L.A. a production by Edmonton's Cardiac Theatre. So far, we've heard nothing but great things about this show. Judy Garland is backstage at the Johnny Carson show. Meanwhile, a volcano bubbles up beneath the streets of Los Angeles.

The Believers

dbphotographics here with yet another theatre poster. This time we had the pleasure of working with Nancy McAlear of the MadFandango Theatre Collective to help promote their latest production of The Believers.

When we met with Nancy to discuss the project, the discussion surrounded the idea of negative space. There's an element of something looming that the characters in the show are missing. Anxiety

Theatre Yes returns with an intense new project. Anxiety opens this week and promises to be a unique experience. Audiences are taken into 6 small intimate performances that will challenge the heights of joy and the depths of despair.

Once again, we are pleased to work with them to devise their promotional materiel. We focused what an audience member may be feeling the moment before they open the door and step into on the the performances.

Plain Jane Theatre is back! Hot off their production of Wish You Were Here and last year's Fringe hit, A New Brain, we are so happy to be working with them on... Working.

Talking about the show, we landed on the idea that the marketing material for this show should really focus on the jobs, less the people doing them. With that, shot all the performers with the intent of producing 7 different posters each showing a moment in time of each of the jobs.

It was a lot of fun to put together.

Bust 'Em Up Burlesque

Send in the Girls Burlesque has hit the big time! 

Their new show, Bust 'Em Up Burlesque is opening tonight at the Citadel Theatre. We were so happy to be working with them to build promotional images for the fourth time.

For this shoot, we broke away from tradition where we shoot against a black wall, and went out into the real world. We first went to a house with an awesome claw bathtub, then headed over to the Mercer Tavern for the remainder of the session.

The Mercer was such a great fit because it has an actual large safe built right into the wall which fit perfectly with the 1920s bank robber setting of the show.

We will be there tonight for their opening. Can't wait to see it. You should see it too.

Wish You Were Here

I can't see the title of this show without getting Pink Floyd stuck in my head.

This was a really fun session. We got to work with one of our favourite theatre companies in town, Plain Jane Theatre. Every time we collaborate with Kate Ryan and crew, we know we are in for a great time and creative project. Their new show, Wish You Were Here: The Ultimate Traveller's Guide to the World, is a musical voyage of the work of Noel Coward across the globe. It instantly hit us that a retro looking postcard would help sell the idea.

Burning Bluebeard

Love, love, LOVE working with theatre companies.

The creativity just flows. Even when the session is in a black rehearsal space, a little set design later, magic happens. This shoot was no exception. Our inspiration for the shoot came from an old prop frame for a long ago show. There were two of them and we just messed around.

We initially tried standing up the frames, then it hit us...
