The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds

Working

Day 6

Plain Jane Theatre is back! Hot off their production of Wish You Were Here and last year's Fringe hit, A New Brain, we are so happy to be working with them on... Working.

Talking about the show, we landed on the idea that the marketing material for this show should really focus on the jobs, less the people doing them. With that, shot all the performers with the intent of producing 7 different posters each showing a moment in time of each of the jobs.

It was a lot of fun to put together.

If you want to check out the show, details are below.

Working

Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, PIPPIN and GODSPELL), James Taylor, Lin-Manuel Miranda (HAMILTON) and other all-star composers honor the heart and soul of the workingman in this musical celebration adapted from Studs Terkel’s 1974 journalistic bestseller- WORKING: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do.

Starring:

Christine Bandelow, Aidan Burke, Althea Cunningham, Kevin Dabbs, Madelaine Knight and Paul Morgan Donald.

Wish You Were Here

I can't see the title of this show without getting Pink Floyd stuck in my head.

This was a really fun session. We got to work with one of our favourite theatre companies in town, Plain Jane Theatre. Every time we collaborate with Kate Ryan and crew, we know we are in for a great time and creative project. Their new show, Wish You Were Here: The Ultimate Traveller's Guide to the World, is a musical voyage of the work of Noel Coward across the globe. It instantly hit us that a retro looking postcard would help sell the idea.

We're pretty happy with how it turned out. If you are interested in checking out the show, it opens today! Details below:

A New Brain at the Edmonton Fringe

We love Plain Jane Theatre. They always come to us with fantastic design requests, and this Fringe is no different.

This show looks incredible. You should check it out.

Here are the show details:

Plain Jane Theatre presents 'A New Brain' by William Finn and James Lapine at this year's Edmonton Fringe Festival.
It's our 6th year at the Fringe and we are thrilled to have this amazing company of artists bringing Mr. Finn's powerful and witty autobiographical musical to life.
Gordon, a composer, falls into his ziti and finds his life suddenly interrupted by a life-threatening brain illness. His best friend, lover, mother, doctor and Mr. Bungee, a frog kiddie show host, guide Gordon through a psychological fantasia where he finds the healing power of art.

Drat the Cat

Two summers ago, we had the pleasure of working with Kate Ryan and Plain Jane Theatre for their production of Little Fish at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival. It was a great shoot with a fun group of people.

Because of that great experience, I was excited when a message from Kate arrived in my inbox asking for some photos and design work for their new show Drat the Cat. She explained that she wanted to capture the feel of the original poster, while still giving it a fresh take.

We shot several different looks and then landed on the final poster image you see below. We encourage you to check out their production at the end of the month. Looks like it's going to be a great time. Details below.
